Harry the Owl has dropped off another Owlcrate!!
For the first box of 2016, we were able to grab our wands and travel into the world of MAGIC! 🙂
Here is what was inside:
As usual, the first item that was in the box was the spoiler info card that explains in detail everything that is included in the Owlcrate box. For those of you who may be new to this subscription, do not flip this card over! Place it to the side until every item has been removed. Otherwise, you will spoil all of the bookish secrets.
For most people, when they think of magic first things to come to mind isHarry Potter! So for this month’s box, one of the big bookish items was a Funko Pop figure featuring one of the main characters in Harry Potter.
My box came with Albus Dumbledore, but I have also seen other people with Severus Snape as their item. Every so often, Owlcrate loves to add variety in their boxes by distributing the same item under either a different flavor, color, or character. This is one of the most surprising ways that Owlcrate keeps their subscribers on their toes by never knowing what exactly will be in their box 🙂
The next bookish item is a double-sided bookmark featuring The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater. This bookmark comes from the wonderful Evie Bookish. The first side quotes, “She wasn’t interested in telling other people’s futures. She was interested in going out & finding her own.” The flip side quotes, “The trees speak latin.” I haven’t read this series, but when I do I will definitely be using this to mark my place!
Next to the bookmark was an advertisement for Robin McKinley’s book called A Knot in the Grain. Many of the boxes include business cards, coupons, or advertisements for unique bookish items or events that you can further check out. This helps to spread the word throughout the book community.
Another fun item is this print of a quote from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas from the talented Evie. I love this series, and I fell in love with the print as soon as I saw it. It quotes, “‘You could rattle the stars,’ she whispered. ‘You could do anything, if only you dared. And deep down, you know it, too. That’s what scares you most.'”
The final bookish item is one that will make your mouth smell and feel good! To add to the magic of the wizarding world, a lip balm featuring the Patronus will protect you from the bitter chill of winter. Geek Fire Labs features their white chocolate and mint flavor that smells so good you’ll want to eat it 🙂
And now for the book of the month………
Worlds of Ink and Shadow by Lena Coakley is a young adult fantasy based off of the Bronte siblings and the magical adventures they tell.
“Charlotte, Branwell, Emily, and Anne. The Brontë siblings have always been inseparable. After all, nothing can bond four siblings quite like life in an isolated parsonage out on the moors. Their vivid imaginations lend them escape from their strict upbringing, actually transporting them into their created worlds: the glittering Verdopolis and the romantic and melancholy Gondal. But at what price? As Branwell begins to slip into madness and the sisters feel their real lives slipping away, they must weigh the cost of their powerful imaginations, even as their characters—the brooding Rogue and dashing Duke of Zamorna—refuse to let them go.
Gorgeously written and based on the Brontës’ juvenilia, Worlds of Ink & Shadow brings to life one of history’s most celebrated literary families.”
