With the first day a success, I was so excited to get back on the showroom floor and go at it again!
This time I had a game plan. I think one of the best pieces of advice I could give you is that planning will make your life and effectiveness a whole lot easier.
I went through all of my information/events that I found, wrote them down, and sorted everything for the day. I made notes on what I was looking for, where it was located, and when I needed to be in the area. This was key especially for any of the highly-anticipated novels that had the possibility of leading to massive lines beforehand.
So here is what my day looked like:
9am – Show floor opens, and we rush through the booths to pick up any ARCs and galley-drop schedules for the day.
930am– Picked up the Epic Read (HarperCollins) ARCs that we missed on Day 1.
1030am – Picked up the second set of Epic Read ARCs!
11am – Ran over the Bloomsbury publishing to get in line for the galley drops of Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige and The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles. Was maybe 15th in line so I got there with plenty of time before the drop at 1130am.
12pm– Ran across the floor to the Penguin Random House booth to get in line for Ransom Riggs signing of Tales of the Peculiar, and my mom stepped in line for the Jennifer Niven signing of her new book Holding Up the Universe.
1pm – I hopped into the Tahereh Mafi line for her newest book, Furthermore.
But right after that signing, I had to run back to the MacMillan line to get tickets for the Heartless signing by Marissa Meyer. Once I rounded the corner, I knew that getting a ticket would be a miracle. There was a massive congestion around the booth with not one, not two, but THREE unofficial lines snaking out of the center. No one knew where the tickets would be dropped. All I could do was pick a spot and stay there.
When the time comes, it turns out the tickets would be given away at the opposite side of the area where no one was located, so the mass of people shoved their way into the official line. There had to be over 200 people waiting to receive maybe 90 tickets. Unfortunately, I they ran out of tickets 20 people ahead of me 😦 *tear* BUT, I’ll just have to wait for its release in November…
230pm– Sarah J. Maas’s Empire of Storms COVER REVEAL!
3pm – The final major event of the day was one I was looking forward too since I saw the announcement on Twitter: Adam Silvera’s signing of his new book, History Is All You Left Me. I met him at a previous book event and he was the sweetest.
Just like the first day, we were exhausted by the time we got to our room. After unpacking and sorting through all of the goodies, we came out with a ton of books!
Somehow we made it through the day with only one book that I was not able to get: Heartless by Marissa Meyer.
We had so much fun meeting new people, seeing authors, and of course the end-of-the-day, refreshing Starbucks run (there was one literally right outside the exhibit hall in the building – like how much more awesome can that get?).
We were now over halfway through the fun with only one more day of BEA awesomeness…
