My Review:

This book is not a scary or creepy read, but it definitely put me in a Halloween mood with all of the talk about magic, witches, ghouls, and wizards.

Now I do have to say that this book took me about a month to get through with my busy schedule, so I didn’t get to fully enjoy every scene between the bits and pieces. But other than that, it was a fairly easy read overall.

There were a few parts towards the middle that I remember having to push myself through because the plot sort of dulled out.

The characters were fun and fit well with the plot. They seemed to develop smoothly from beginning to end with a lot of possibility for more further in the series.

Once the story really began to get moving, there were a lot of “oh snap” moments that surprised me! From then on, I ended up flying through the last 100 pages in one night.

Have you ever read one of those books where the final battle-scene is so intense that you are on the edge of your seat, but then the scene changes to the aftermath? Yeah that kind of happened here. I wasn’t disappointed in how it played out, but I felt like I missed a step in between. Overall, this book did leave me feeling like the sequel could get more intense..

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. It was a great start to a YA fantasy series, and I would recommend this to anyone who’s wanting to kick off the Halloween spirit.
