Tis the Season TBR : 19 Days ’til Christmas

Are you looking for the perfect gift to buy someone for the holidays? Here is Day 6 of the ultimate YA gift guide!

So why did I choose this book?

Auto-Buy Author: I absolutely LOVE Sarah J. Maas’s writing! I’m currently up to Heir of Fire (Book 3- Throne of Glass) in her series, and it has been a rollercoaster of tragedy and heartwarming moments. Her books are all over the YA community, so if you haven’t pick her up yet, I HIGHLY recommend! She currently has two awesome series that she recently announced will have more books added on! *yay*

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas

“After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her … but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.”

**In the picture below of the Throne of Glass series, what I mention as Book 1 (The Assassin’s Blade) is ACTUALLY a bind-up of novellas that happen PRIOR to the series. BUT Sarah herself and I both recommend that you should read the series in the following order:

  1. Throne of Glass (Book 1)
  2. The Assassin’s Blade (Novella Bind-Up)
  3. Crown of Midnight (Book 2)
  4. Heir of Fire (Book 3)
  5. Queen of Shadows (Book 4)
  6. Empire of Storms (Book 5)

I mention The Assassin’s Blade as Book 1 (Throne of Glass) because I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you read it in either the above order OR in the order listed in the picture. I began the series in the ABOVE order and I feel like after reading Crown of Midnight (Book 2), the whole thing flowed very nicely. Book 1 introduces the story, but then the novella bind-up answers a few backstory questions that we have from Book 1, and then the novellas answer even more questions in Book 2 that we wouldn’t have noticed without reading the novellas first. Again, you can add the novella in any order, BUT the above order is the most beneficial from experience. **
