May 2017 Owlcrate Unboxing!

It’s Memorial Day!

I hope everyone has had a fun, safe day with your family and friends (whether it’s through remembering those who didn’t make it overseas or by spending the day with your favorite fictional friends)!

Today I bring you another Owlcrate unboxing! This month’s theme surrounds the colorful world of the classic comics!

You may be thinking, “does this mean that Owlcrate will have their first comic inside??”

Not exactly.

The theme surrounds comics, but the featured YA book is still a newly released chapter book.

But don’t fret!

There may be a comic surprise inside! *cough.. hint hint.. cough*

Here is my May 2017 Owlcrate Unboxing!

What book do you think could be in this box??

So first off, we have the information card that includes all of the spoiler-ful information on each item in the box. If you haven’t seen or had your own Owlcrate unboxing, this card should be set aside UNTIL you hit the very bottom of the box. Otherwise, you will spoil what’s inside.

And trust me, you don’t want to do that.

Underneath the card was one of the hints that the company released: a full-sized Funko Pop!

These awesome, detailed figures are my favorite collectables that I own. Well, besides my books of course.

Since this box is Comic-themed, it is only logical that the Funko Pop would be something from a comic.

Each box contains one of 7 different figures from the most well-known comics. Mine contained..

I am very happy with this one! I can already tell that this box is going to keep getting better if this is what the first item is!

The next item inside is one that smells amazing!

This mini candle has a sweet, raspberry aroma and features the “Wonder Woman” name and classic colors! It is from a candle shop named Dio Candle Company.

The next tasty treat is from Kafe. If you’re looking for an extra boost during the mid-day but you left your coffee cup at home, this candy contains caffeine from one of our favorite beans in the world: the coffee bean.

I haven’t tried a piece yet, but let me tell ya, it looks yummy!

Have you ever had to zip up your cosplay outfit, but then you realize your zipper pull just broke? Well now you won’t have to fret! Just hook this one onto your zipper, and ka-pow, you’re good to go!

This cute ‘lil item was created exclusively from the Owlcrate team!

If you’ve seen the last few boxes, each one has contained a fun, mini button featuring one of the designs off of the info cards. This month is no different!

Now how can you have a comic box without being creatively inspired to make your own?? Well with this next item, you’ll be able to draw out a full comic book with only one pen!

This multi-colored push pen is from Ooly and contains 6 different colors!

And for the final bookish item in the box before the big book reveal is..

This exclusive chapter copy of the comic Afar from Image Comics!

Now, for the final item in the Comic box!!

Drum roll please..

The book of the month is…

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia!

Eighteen-year-old Eliza Mirk is the anonymous creator of Monstrous Sea, a wildly popular webcomic, but when a new boy at school tempts her to live a life offline, everything she’s worked for begins to crumble.

In the real world, Eliza Mirk is shy, weird, smart, and friendless. Online, Eliza is LadyConstellation, the anonymous creator of a popular webcomic called Monstrous Sea. With millions of followers and fans throughout the world, Eliza’s persona is popular. Eliza can’t imagine enjoying the real world as much as she loves her digital community. Then Wallace Warland transfers to her school, and Eliza begins to wonder if a life offline might be worthwhile. But when Eliza’s secret is accidentally shared with the world, everything she’s built—her story, her relationship with Wallace, and even her sanity—begins to fall apart. With pages from Eliza’s webcomic, as well as screenshots from Eliza’s online forums, this uniquely formatted book will appeal to fans of Noelle Stevenson’s Nimona and Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl.“

I was actually surprised about the book that was chosen. I haven’t heard of it before, and I really like that Owlcrate did that! This box really hit the spot and all the bookish goodies are perfect to the theme.

So what about the June 2017 box??

At the very bottom of the frilly paper was this info card that contains the theme for the next month along with a sneak peek of an item that will be in the box!
