A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas is a New Adult Fantasy sequel to A Court of Thorns and Roses.
“Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.
Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.
With more than a million copies sold of her beloved Throne of Glass series, Sarah J. Maas’s masterful storytelling brings this second book in her seductive and action-packed series to new heights.“
*This book contains sexual content and may be more suitable for mature readers.*
ACOMAF quickly became my favorite book of the year and maybe even of all-time. (Besides Harry Potter, because there will always be that special place in my heart..)
If you’re going into this book thinking it’s a continuation of the Beauty and the Beast theme, you will be disappointed. As the first book took on the re-telling, the series turns into a dark, romantic fantasy of war and politics of its own.
The writing is very intense and dark with a slow-burning romance imbedded in the story. There is so much emotion in this book that there were moments that I had a take a step back just to be able to take it all in. This entire book is addictive with twists in the plot that will keep you engaged.. and more!
The development from beginning to end creates such a powerful, passionate connection with the characters. Like I mentioned above, there is descriptive sexual content hat adds a whole new level to the once innocent love story and may not be suitable for younger readers. The author does an amazing job in keeping the reader fully engaged in this intense, fiery, all-consuming storyline that hits you so deeply.
I do have to say this book may have a slight trigger warning for emotional abuse as the events become very deep and scrape the main character’s soul apart. You can’t help but feel their hopelessness. But the growth from beginning to end is worthwhile.
I was surprised in how much friendship was a driving force for the characters. The Inner Circle is the definition of ‘Squad Goals.’ I really enjoyed reading their perspectives and the history they have with Rhys. The snarky comments between them made me laugh so many times. And Rhys. He is more than you would have thought from Book 1. But I don’t want to spoil anything, so you’ll just have to read it for yourself. Oh, to be in the Night Court :).
This book was hard to put down! I gave this 5 out of 5 stars and has quickly hit the top of my all-time favorite books list! There were even scenes that I ended up reading multiple times just to make sure I didn’t miss anything!! I’ll definitely be re-reading it again soon!
