Nocturnal Meetings of the Misplaced by R.J. Garcia is a YA Contemporary Mystery of a group of misfits who come together to solve unsolved mysteries.
“Mystery surrounds the town of Summertime, Indiana, where fifteen-year-old Tommy Walker and his little sister are sent to live with relatives they’ve never met. Tommy soon makes friends with Finn Wilds, a rebellious local who lives with his volatile and abusive stepfather, who also happens to be the town’s sheriff.
Finn invites Tommy to late night meetings in the woods, where Tommy gets to know two girls. He forms a special and unique connection with both girls. The meetings become a place where the kids, who don’t fit in at school, or home can finally belong. As the group of friends begin to unravel clues to a cold case murder and kidnapping— they learn the truth is darker and closer than they ever imagined. Even if they live to tell, will anyone believe them?“
This blog tour is slightly different in that I am reviewing the AUDIOBOOK of this YA Contemporary Mystery. And there is ALOT of suspense involved that I was not expecting, but in a good way!
We follow two main characters whose lives aren’t the happy, go-lucky with a stable family structure, and when their lives come together, they form a bond that overcomes the bounds of friendship.
There is a trigger warning for domestic abuse, so if you are more sensitive to this topic, please be advised this book may not be for you.
This story features friendship, a hint of romance, and a lot of mystery solving. What’s unique about this book is that we follow not one, but two MALE perspectives which in’t seen much in YA, and I will say that it was fun to listen to.
As for the audiobook, I enjoyed the narrator. It was really entertaining, and there was an easy variations in the POVs. Overall, the story was easy to follow, and I would recommend this audiobook if you’re looking for a suspenseful mystery that you will quickly fly through with all the twists and turns. Especially since it’s only a little over 7 hours long!
I gave this audiobook 4 out of 5 stars.

How I Read It: Audiobook from Xpresso Book Tours
“R.J. Garcia is a wife and proud mom. She earned her MSW and worked with foster children and as a school social worker. Writing has been her other great love. She has published several non-fiction pieces. She has been writing short-stories for as long as she can remember. To her amazement, those short stories became novels!”
