Ask Me Anything by Moly E. Lee is a YA Contemporary story of two coders, a romance, and a taboo.
“Edgy and smart with a sweet and sexy core.” —Rachel Harris, New York Times bestselling author of Eyes on Me
I should’ve kept my mouth shut.
But Wilmont Academy’s been living in the Dark Ages when it comes to sex ed, and someone had to take matters into her own hands. Well, I’m a kick-ass coder, so I created a totally anonymous, totally untraceable blog where teens can come to get real, honest, nothing-is-off-limits sex advice.
And holy hell, the site went viral—and we’re talking way beyond Wilmont—overnight. Who knew this town was so hard up?
Except now the school administration is trying to shut me down, and they’ve forced Dean—my coding crush, aka the hottest guy in school—to try to uncover who I am. If he discovers my secret, I’ll lose him forever. And thousands of teens who need real advice won’t have anyone to turn to.
Ask me anything…except how to make things right.“
This book was addicting!
From the very first page, we are thrown into an intense, suspenseful moment that kicks off the story between two high school coders. Then, the plot thickens as the strict school they attend throws out, yet another, lecture on the one thing we don’t see very often in YA: sex education.
Now, this isn’t a book out sex itself, but rather, it dives deep into the taboo behind educating the younger generation and the ways in which society goes about it. The author does a great job in bringing the subject into the light while also providing an engaging, entertaining story that they can fully become invested in. It’s pretty much a win-win!
I really liked reading the connection between the two POVs. AND it’s even told in multiple formats such as blogs and messages which goes great with them being successful computer hackers. But when a prank leads the school’s principal into blackmailing one of them, they come together to try and finally bring him down.
I absolutely loved reading this book, and I gave it a full 5 out of 5 stars. The plot is full of suspense while also providing awareness to some important topics. There are a lot of heavier subjects discussed such as sexual assault/content, so please be cautious if you are sensitive to this type of material.

From the Author:
How did the concept for Ask Me Anything come about to you?
“The concept for Ask Me Anything was a collaboration between myself and my editor, Stacy Abrams. Not surprisingly, with the current social climate, we were craving a strong female lead with a fire inside of her—one she pointed at the people trying to keep her and her peers down.
From there, Amber Henderson flared to life in my mind, alongside the methods and themes of the story. She was this spark of a character—this strong girl who unfortunately had something dark happen to her that made her lose a bit of that fire. And she uses her outlet of helping others deal with their own problems as a means to heal herself and rediscover her self-worth. Writing her…was truly an honor. She’s everything I wished I could’ve been in high school—open-minded and fierce, with a huge heart and a focus on helping people rather than sticking her head in the sand. She possesses a sense of self-worth and ownership by the end of the book that I found admirable and was proud to be on that journey with her.
I also wanted to write a character that had a strong family foundation, one she used to help other people as well. Amber’s parents are essential to her development in the book and they offer her a solid base to come back to when things get chaotic. I find that kind of dynamic rare and wanted to explore it.”
Do you have any tips on writing YA Contemporary?
“Any tips I could give about writing in the young adult contemporary genre would be to: breathe, do your research, and let the character take the wheel. Breathing is for the massive stress that comes with writing for a young adult audience. The readers are some of the most incredible and powerful people in the industry and you owe it to them to deliver the best book possible. This includes being authentic…which is where the research comes in. As an author, you need to know what you’re talking about and that includes knowing what your target audience is doing, enjoying, hating, and so forth. And lastly, create a character who takes you on their journey. That is what Amber did for me—I may have brought her to life, but she showed me where to go, and wasn’t shy about telling me she wouldn’t eversay that or act that way or when she needed a double-scoop of Nutella straight from the jar. I’m super proud of her and her story and I’m simply grateful I was able to be a part of it.”
