New Coven's End 1Bad boy. Alpha. Lethal.

Some say those are qualities of a good leader. Others disagree.

Heir to the Vampire throne and Lilith’s only son, I’m being forced to find a mate.

Unfortunately for my beloved mama, I found my fated mate already.

No one compares to her.

The problem?

She’s a Lycan princess— completely off limits. If that’s not bad enough, I’m not her only potential mate.

Can I ignore the pull of my fated mate to make my mother happy and take the throne?

Chapter One

Kane

You will choose a mate, and then take the throne.” Lilith’s voice resonated with a finality that made me cringe. I held in my irritation and scanned the great throne room. When she put her power into her words, no one—not even me—could disobey.

Fucking rules.

Lilith was my mother—and Lucifer knew I loved her—but I couldn’t rule the vampires while under her thumb and no more than her puppet. When I did become the High King of the vampires, there were going to be changes. The old ways didn’t work for us as they once did.

I fisted my hands over the arms of my throne. Why we were meeting in the great room to discuss my mating situation was beyond me. Mother was supposed to be gone already, but The Blood—the vampire council—demanded I find a mate first. They never gave their reasons, which made me suspicious.

“Mother, it isn’t that easy.” My chest tightened with an unfamiliar feeling. Longing and loneliness stirred within. I’d already met my mate, not that it would do me any good. I couldn’t claim my one true mate, ever.

It was several years ago. My guard had convinced me to go to a local bar owned by one of their own that catered to both vampires and lycans. Many of the lycans attended public schools with the humans, able to blend in all but one night a month when the moon was full. The younger lycans were notorious for bar-hopping, and vampires weren’t much different.

A vampire-owned bar wasn’t unusual. We owned the night, after all, and humans in bars made poor choices, leaving us open to feed without detection or having to use our telepathic abilities. Using telepathy to mask our feeding always drained us.

We’d entered a local bar that particular night, and I’d almost left when I smelled them. Lycans. A growl escaped me as I walked through the door, my guard flanking me. It was no secret that vampires and lycans had warred since the beginning of time. Well, maybe not that long, but there were times it felt that way.

Scanning every dark corner of the place, I spotted several of the wolves crammed into booths in near the back of the bar. The entire establishment reeked of them, so I slowed my breathing to minimize the overwhelming scent of dog.

Ignoring the lycans, my guard and I made our way to the bar where a small group of vampires close to my age gathered. They met my gaze briefly and nodded their heads once in a slight bow. I nodded back in greeting. One thing I hated about being the vampire prince was my people insisted on being at attention in my presence. It was annoying. My people weren’t fucking puppets.

They were people with lives. As long as they didn’t expose us to the humans, I didn’t care what they did.

It was one thing I was already starting to change—I only wanted them to address me formally when I was sitting on my throne.

Once seated, the bartender took our drink orders and left. My guard rested against the bar so he could watch the door and my back simultaneously. “You know there are large factions of younger vampires in favor of ending our centuries-long feud with the lycans.”

Yeah, I knew. However, I had little interest. “Nothing I can do about it at the moment.”

My time to rule would come soon enough—three to four years to be exact – and I didn’t want to waste my free years worrying about vampire-lycan politics.

The air conditioning kicked on, blowing cool air through the bar and mixing the scents of vampire and lycans. That was when her scent hit me full-force, nearly knocking me off my stool. Rose water and mint, mixed with an intoxicating earthy spice that called to my soul. My body heated and my heart pulsed, pumping blood straight to my dick. What the fuck?

My head whipped around, searching for the owner of that scent—the scent of my mate. When I spotted her, the noise from the bar around me seemed to disappear for a few moments. Her wavy chestnut hair was pulled back in a high ponytail, and two thick strands of hair framed her oval face. She wore a pair of faded blue jeans with tears cut into the thighs and a black T-shirt that said, “I howl at the moon.”

She was a lycan. Fuck me.

“Who is she?” I nudged my guard. He came to the bar frequently and was more likely to know. I suspected he was one of the ones encouraging vampires to give lycans a chance.

My guard followed my line of sight and grunted. “Jillian,” he said. “She’s hot, but she’s too hot. Trouble. She’s the lycan princess, only heir to the High Alpha.”

Fuck me. She was my mate. I knew it as surely as I knew I could never be with her. An ache formed in my soul at that thought. Normally I didn’t have a problem with breaking the rules and taking what was mine. But this was different.

I had to take the vampire throne one day soon and choose a vampire mate. It was the law and my future. A future I’d have to live without my fated mate. I’d never be accepted if I had a lycan as my mate, much less the lycan princess.

Book 2: Voss

img_0562

New Coven's End 2“I’m arguably the biggest, strongest Lycan in the pack.

My father would have it no other way. He raised me to mate the Princess and become the High Alpha.

He was wrong.

The High Alpha is letting his daughter choose her own mate. He’s letting her choose love.

My competition is fierce. The cocky Vampire prince and the Princess’s best friend and sentry both hold a piece of her heart. But too bad for them, so do I.

They aren’t backing down.

Then the Vamp suggests we share her. If we truly loved her like we say, why make her choose?

I don’t know if I can do it. I didn’t intend it to happen, but I already love her.

One thing is for sure. I’m not walking away from her.

Chapter One

Voss

With the practiced skill of a pro, I unwrapped the tape from my hands as I slowed my breathing, bringing down my heart rate. Even after the cool-down exercises, my wolf pushed for control. The breathing helped calm the beast a little, but the wolf was always at the surface, restless. Years of training under a sadistic prick of a father had turned me into the strongest and most dangerous lycan in the U.S.

Lifting my gaze, I met the stares of the pups around me as they finagled their own tape. The class was finished, the young wolves exhausted and hopefully a bit more skilled. “Be sure you get plenty of rest tonight. I heard some of you have exams tomorrow.”

A few groans echoed around the room, and I smiled. When I took on the post as Jillian’s sentry, I’d considered giving up the class, but I enjoyed training the pack’s young.

These were the kids that, if trained properly, would make the next leaders. They’d be the sentries, the pack alphas. They’d be looked up to, listened to, and respected. If left untrained, their alpha and beta energy would drive them to trouble, possibly turn them rogue. I’d seen it before. Lived it, actually. So it was my duty to teach them the correct way to train and hone their power.

They had something I never had—a teacher who cared about them enough to let them discover their own potential.

“Thanks, Voss,” a pup called out as he left the room. He was my oldest student and would be graduating to the adult classes soon.

“Have a good night, kids.” I waved at the eight boys and two girls as they filed out the door, then made my way to my bedroom on the other side of the gym. I held the class in the basement of the High Alpha’s house, much to the kids’ awe and delight. Graham didn’t mind, either. He joined us on occasion, giving his advice to the kids. They really loved the High Alpha sharing his skills and advice on leadership with them.

As soon as I entered my room, Quin walked in behind me. “How was class?”

I glanced at him over my shoulder, then tugged my shirt over my head. “Good. We need to keep our eyes on the Fowler kid. He has a lot anger bottled up inside of him and won’t talk about it.”

Unresolved up anger wasn’t good for the wolf within. Unfortunately, I knew that all too well.

Quin nodded, a little distracted. “Noted.”

“Jillian gone?” I turned and watched him, knowing good and well Jillian had left earlier. There was only one place she’d go without Quin or myself.

Quin’s features darkened. “Yeah. She’s at Kane’s.”

He wasn’t as okay with it as he said he was. I couldn’t blame him, he’d known Jillian all her life. Probably loved her just as long.

If I was to be honest with myself, I wasn’t warming up to the idea either. Although I was pretty laid back about sharing her—much to my surprise—it rankled me that I’d be sharing my mate with a fucking vamp.

“I convinced her to stay there with him until we come back for her in the morning, at least,” Quin added, his tone a little less irritated.

“He could bring her home.”

Quin laughed and sat in a ratty armchair in the corner of my room. “She won’t risk her dad seeing her with him until she’s figured out how to tell him.”

Yeah, that could be a problem. “I don’t envy her that job.”

Graham doted on Jillian, gave her everything she’d ever wanted in life. But a vampire mate? That wouldn’t go over well with the High Alpha of the lycans.

That’s the hand we’d been dealt. Me and Quin might’ve been having a hard time reconciling it, but we’d get there eventually. What else could we do? Fated mates were impossible to ignore. Apparently the Fates had a plan for the four of us.

Book 3: Quin

img_0562

New Coven's End 3“I never intended to mate. I definitely never imagined I’d share her with two other alpha males.

When the Lycan Princess came of age, the mating call hit me. Hard. She’s mine. My wolf will do anything for her. Even sharing her with an arrogant vampire and a hot-headed wolf.

When an outside threat surfaces, it’s up to me, Kane, and Voss to protect our mate. We have to find a way to set aside our differences and become the partners she deserves.

If we fail to form a solid bond, both the Lycan and Vampire races are doomed.

Chapter One

Quin

“Fuck. Just fuck.

I cradled Jillian to me as I carried her out of the vampires’ massive home. Voss held the door open for us, his features a mask of anger and worry. She’d passed out from the exertion of reliving the murders, but not before revealing who was leading the humans on this vendetta.

Trinity. The current vampire queen. Things had gone from fucked up to welcome to the darkest parts of Hell.

I hated when she did these investigations, but we hadn’t found another way to gain more insight than she could. That damn alpha blood gave her a gift that was a total burden. It drained her, left her too fucking vulnerable.

Kane had the car waiting in front of the door by the time we stepped out. He and Roger had run ahead the instant Jillian passed out. While Kane moved the car, Roger rushed to the gate to let us out.

Rogar seemed like a good guy, for a vampire. Kane really liked him, anyway. I guessed Roger was one of the few Kane trusted. I was beginning to trust Kane. Especially after seeing how he was with Jillian.

I slid into the back seat with my charge, my life’s mate. I’d been by her side since the day she was born. Vowed to protect her, be with her always.

Her head flopped over onto my shoulder, so I nestled her more comfortably against me. Forcing myself to calm, I settled back into the seat and rubbed circles on her back. She is okay. She just needs rest.

Her childhood had been magical for both her and me. I’d kept my word to her mother, and I’d cared for her.

Normally the High Alpha and Queen would’ve chosen a nanny, but I wouldn’t let them. She was mine. When I wasn’t training or in lessons I was by her side.

She’d never cried when I was there. If she was with her mother in the night and she wouldn’t calm, they’d send for me. I’d curl up beside her in the big bed beside her crib, and she’d go straight to sleep.

The Queen had called me her miracle worker and soon convinced me to call her Tina. The High Alpha insisted on Grey. It took longer for me to be able to do that.

Jillian murmured in her sleep, nonsense I couldn’t make out. Voss’s head whipped around. “Did she say something?”

“Nothing that made sense. She’s having a nightmare, I think.”

Voss shook his head, frowning. His wolf was in his eyes. “I don’t want her doing this anymore.”

I almost laughed at him. He should’ve known as well as me that Jillian didn’t take orders from anyone. “I don’t think it’ll leave any lasting damage. And you know what she’d say if she heard you say that.”

“Listen, I know you think you know her better than I do, and maybe you do. But that doesn’t mean I don’t get an opinion or a vote,” Voss glared at me, angry. He was really over protective.

I was, too, but I’d learned early on to let Jillian take care of herself. I had her back if she needed it, but not before she needed it. Usually.

She’d been a beloved friend to me as she grew, a little buddy. We’d played, laughed, and eaten far too much candy and sweets. I’d indulged her every whim.

As she’d aged, she came to me with her problems. When she was very small it was stuff like skinned knees and friends taking her toys. It turned into friendship problems, then eventually boys.

At some point when she was in high school, my protective, almost brotherly affection for her morphed into something else. It didn’t happen overnight, but one day I realized I didn’t want to play board games with her any more. I wanted to play other… dirtier games with her.

I was thirteen years older than she was. She was seventeen, and I was thirty. Hardly the picture of who a father would want to date his daughter.

The pull grew stronger as she aged. When she brought her first boyfriend home, I nearly came unglued. By the time she found Kane, I was about to break. I didn’t know if she felt what I did, but I couldn’t shake her. I hadn’t been able to shake her since she was born. And I didn’t want to.

“Why isn’t she waking up?” Kane asked, eyeing us in the rearview mirror as he drove us home.

I focused on her, matching my breathing to hers like I had when she was an infant and wouldn’t stop crying. There was a bond there, and I could sense her. It wasn’t overt or obvious, and I hadn’t tried since she was a small child.

But it worked in that moment. I was able to connect with her, feel what she was feeling. Maybe that was what my mom meant about being a healer. My empathy allowed me to sense others’ emotions. Jillian was one of the few I could truly connect with. “She’s not hurt. She’s exhausted. She needs sleep is all.”

“How do you know that?” Voss asked suspiciously.

“It’s a long story,” I said.

He just raised his eyebrows at me.

I sighed and gave him an abridged version of how I came to be Jillian’s first sentry. I included the part about my world shifting when I laid eyes on her as an infant. I didn’t tell him that my loneliness disappeared that day, and the hole my parents’ death had left began to fill.

Kane glanced at me several times in the rearview mirror as I spoke.

“You are her mate,” he said.

“No more than you are. Our bond is different.” I smiled down at her. “I think we all need each other in different ways.”

Book 4: Jillian

img_0562

New Coven's End 4I’m not your typical princess. Don’t expect me to rule from afar, but I’ve only just met my mates. I’d like some time to spend with them before taking on the rule of every Lycan on Earth.

My vampire offers me an escape from the rules. He’s my forbidden pleasure.

My broken sentry keeps me grounded and reminds me not to take anything for granted.

My best friend, by my side since I was born, protects me and reminds me of the rewards of leadership and pack family.

But nothing, not even my mates, prepared me for our final fight.

The Vampire Council doesn’t approve of our nontraditional relationship. They’ll stop at nothing to prevent the merge of the Vampire Coven and the Lycan Pack.

The Lycan Council resists my every move.

Is love enough to end this war?

Chapter One

Jillian

Quin nearly fell over as I shoved my shoulder into his arm. How dare he say that the pack would expect babies? I scanned the crowd in the pack hall before my gaze landed on Dad. Why did he have to mention grandbabies? Ugh. We were there to announce my ascension and his pending retirement. Dad would still be a huge support unit for me and my mates until Trinity and Emerson were taken out.

I nudged Quin again and kept my voice low so only Quin heard me. “I’m not getting pregnant right now.”

He snorted softly. “I know that. But the pack wants what the pack wants.”

I rolled my eyes and gave my attention back to Kane and my father. Dad continued his speech. “The council will be governed by Kane and Voss, with the full support of your new High Alpha, my daughter Jillian.”

Smiling, I stepped beside him. The crowd was mixed, most of the lycans cheering me. Most of the vampires were complacent or scowling. Maybe it would take more work than I thought.

“Thank you,” I said loudly, projecting my voice. “We’ll have growing pains, of course.”

I stepped closer to Kane as my father slid out of the limelight and returned to his seat beside Sissy. “Not everyone will be on board. But one thing you need to realize is that we are not asking everyone to do what Kane and I are doing. Lycans, nobody’s asking you to mate with a vampire.” I smiled and kept my tone teasing, and many in the crowd chuckled. “We just ask that in an age where humans are entering the picture, we work together instead of warring against each other.” Many heads nodded, many shook. Ugh. “The lycans will still be lycans. We won’t be giving up our heritage, our traditions.”

Kane took my hand, and twined our fingers together. “And the same for the vampires. Nobody will be asking you to change. Just work together to keep our species secret and safe. Progress is necessary. We must say goodbye to the time of the Coven and the time of the Pack.”

We’d planned this part. Quin joined me on my other side, taking my hand, and Voss, the taller of the two, stood behind us with his arm on my shoulder as I delivered the last line. “We welcome the time of the Collective.”

The room erupted again, and we left them to their cheers and grumbles. They needed time to vent their emotions. We’d counted on it, which was why the we had guards from both races positioned around the room.

We turned, and Dad and Sissy stood. Dad shook my mates’ hands and Sissy hugged me. “I’ve always thought of you as my own. Now it’ll be official.”

If there was anyone alive I could get behind being with my dad, it was Sissy. I hugged her tight. “Love you, Sis.”

“Love you back.” I had to fight tears. She was as close to a mom as I had. She was exactly what my father needed.

The crowd calmed, so we stepped forward again. Kane delivered our next piece of news. “There was a home attacked by the Red Night. The family of the coven members killed in the home want nothing to do with the location and offered it to us. We’ve had a shaman come in to cleanse the site, and he assures us all spirits have moved on and are at peace and all emotional imprints are cleared out so Jillian can’t pick up on the events that happened in the home. Although, none of us will never forget. Anyway, the house is large, secure, and perfect to be our home base. There are other buildings on the property where we can host traveling Collective members, have room for training facilities, and there’s plenty of room to expand and build on.”

Many nods answered him. I stepped forward, standing shoulder to shoulder with Kane. “We will use security from the current enforcers from both the coven and pack, creating a Collective Police Force.”

The fighters of both sides would have the hardest time accepting that they would have work side by side with their enemies. That was something they would need to suck up and deal with, or they could leave. I wasn’t going to put up with any of the enforcers disrespecting one another.

There were a few grumbles, but it went over fairly well. And by fairly well, I meant no one looked like they wanted to kill someone.

“I know you have questions. I ask that you give us time to deal with Trinity and Emerson before everything becomes official.” Kane smiled at the crowd. He was enigmatic, even some of the unhappy-looking lycans seemed to soften toward him as he spoke. “Hold your questions. Write them down. We will reconvene in a week. Everyone have a nice evening.”

We’d held the meeting an hour after nightfall to give both groups the opportunity to attend, and we’d been pleased with the turnout.

“Well, now our work begins.” I scrubbed my hands across my face. Finding Trinity and Emerson, moving to a new house, including all our trainees, was a huge undertaking. Lifting my gaze, I met my dad’s stare. “Dad, you’re not going anywhere yet, or stepping down.”

He gave a short nod. “I hadn’t planned on going anywhere until after the traitors are dealt with. The transition of power is important to start now while there is a threat on both races. It gives our people hope and it shows them we’re handling it.”

Dad and Sissy moved to the entrance of the Pack Hall and my guys and me followed. I had a hunch about the reasons Dad suddenly decided to step down. “Yeah, it’s not only a transition of High Alpha but a change from the old ways to new traditions.”

Dad nodded. “I thought we’d do the official ceremony once you’ve moved. For all decisions, you’re in charge, but I would still be the High Alpha in hierarchy until then. It’s a sensitive time, and you’ll want a few days to just absorb your new powers and abilities.”

“Is it really going to be that drastic?” Kane asked, glancing at me with his brow drawn.

“Son, it’s unlike anything you could imagine. You’ve been at your full power all your life. Jillian grew and trained into what she has now. But what she’ll get is stronger than any one vampire, especially for the first couple of decades. It wanes slightly as we age, but not much. I’ve let myself grow fat and complacent!” He patted his washboard stomach and laughed. Sure, he might’ve slacked off the daily training regimen, but I’d still put my bets on him in any fight.

“Is it painful?” Pain didn’t scare me. If it was painful, I’d embrace it and work through it.

“Not physically. The emotional and mental drain is almost too much, though.” He laughed. “I hope to be around when you go through it, actually. It’s pretty funny to watch.”

“Dad!” I slapped his arm. “You’ll be laughing at my turmoil.”

He laughed harder and rubbed his arm. “I sure will. My parents laughed at mine, knowing it was temporary, and worth it once I discovered how much I’d love the feeling of being the High Alpha. And I’ll do the same to you, as you will to your child one day.”

“One day far into the future,” I muttered to myself. Unfortunately, everyone in the room had exceptional hearing.

Voss snorted. “I agree.”

Quin gave us both scrutinizing looks, and Kane laughed. I supposed we’d have to have a real conversation about it at some point. But not today. Definitely not today.
