City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab is a Middle Grade Fantasy story of a girl who can see ghosts after her accident.
“Cassidy Blake’s parents are The Inspecters, a (somewhat inept) ghost-hunting team. But Cass herself can REALLY see ghosts. In fact, her best friend, Jacob, just happens to be one.
When The Inspecters head to ultra-haunted Edinburgh, Scotland, for their new TV show, Cass—and Jacob—come along. In Scotland, Cass is surrounded by ghosts, not all of them friendly. Then she meets Lara, a girl who can also see the dead. But Lara tells Cassidy that as an In-betweener, their job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the Veil. Cass isn’t sure about her new mission, but she does know the sinister Red Raven haunting the city doesn’t belong in her world. Cassidy’s powers will draw her into an epic fight that stretches through the worlds of the living and the dead, in order to save herself.”

How I Read It: Hardcover from Library
If you are looking for the perfect ghost story this season, grab ahold of this series!
We meet a character who is able to see ghosts after an accident she experienced, and one of them has stayed with her ever since.
What’s even better is that her parents are ‘supposedly‘ famous ghost hunters, so when they are sent on a trip to Europe for a TV show taping, her life gets thrown into more than she ever thought. And the crazy part is that she’s not alone..
I really enjoyed this book, and it didn’t feel like a middle grade book. It had more YA vibes, so if you are worried about the lighter style of writing, I don’t think you need to worry about that.
I gave this book 5 out of 5 Stars, and I definitely plan to grab the next book soon!
