The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is a beloved epic Fantasy adventure and a part of the Lord of the Rings franchise!
“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.
Written for J.R.R. Tolkien’s own children, The Hobbit met with instant critical acclaim when it was first published in 1937. Now recognized as a timeless classic, this introduction to the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, the wizard Gandalf, Gollum, and the spectacular world of Middle-earth recounts of the adventures of a reluctant hero, a powerful and dangerous ring, and the cruel dragon Smaug the Magnificent”
I first read this book many years ago, and I was excited to make this series the first Binge Reads pick of the new decade!
This is the only one I’ve read (or seen – I know, how could I have never seen any of the movies?!?) in the Middle-Earth universe, and even though it is a beloved classic, it wasn’t my absolute fave. The story itself was an enjoyable one, from the whimsical writing to the quirky characters. The world is one that I’m excited to explore further with the Lord of the Rings.
It is one of those stories that needs my full attention in order to know what’s going on, zero distractions. My favorite parts were obviously the dragons and adventures because I am a huge sucker for both!
If you enjoy quest stories and epic fantasy, classic writing styles, I recommend this one to you! I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Happy Reading,
Love any story set in Middle Earth ❤️. The movies are exceptional as well. They stay very true to the books and are visually stunning. I did enjoy LOTR more than The Hobbit. To me The Hobbit was a bit darker, for lack of a better word, and did not hold my attention as thoroughly as LOTR.
